Demi Moore shocks fans after sharing ‘correct’ way to say her name that’s been mispronounced for years

It turns out we’ve long been saying Demi Moore’s name wrong.

It’s typically Irish stars like Saoirse Ronan, Barry Keoghan, and Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan that have to teach people how to pronounce their unique monikers, but there’s more straight forward names too.

For example, names can be somewhat lost in translation. James Bond star Daniel Craig recently called out Stephen Colbert on his show as American’s typically pronounce Craig as ‘Creg’.

But, with Craig being British, he prefers to have to said the British way – which is a totally fair request, in my books.

Now, a previous interview of Demi Moore’s has been doing the rounds online where she chatted to Jimmy Fallon about her name.

Moore has been the talk of the town of late after bagging her first Golden Globe earlier this month.

The actor, 62, has been in the industry for decades and, while she’s had nominations, it wasn’t until she starred in The Substance that she finally got her hands on the prestigious accolade.

Moore gave an extremely emotional acceptance speech on the star-studded night, where she described herself as ‘so humbled and so grateful’.

She also spoke about having previously been labeled a ‘popcorn actress’ and that she was made to feel that she’d never be worthy of a Golden Globe, but when she received the script for The Substance, the universe told her that she wasn’t done with acting yet.

Rewinding back to her chat with Fallon in 2017, Moore discussed her name and compared herself to Demi Lovato.

While their first names are written and spelt the same way, apparently they’re pronounced differently.

“Our families say our names the same, but we each individually pronounce it differently,” the Ghost star said of her and Lovato.

As to why they say it differently, Moore said the change ‘works better with our last names’.

Moore went on to explain: “Like, ‘Deh-mee Lovato’ sounds really good, and ‘Duh-mee’ Moore sounds really good.”

In light of the clip doing the rounds online again, people have been sharing their thoughts on the matter on Twitter.

One person wrote: “Love how she’s taking charge of her own name, makes it even more iconic!”

“Good to know! Getting names right always matters,” added a second.

Others, however, expressed their shock.

Someone pondered about Lovato and Moore’s monikers, writing: “Who else unknowingly pronounced both names exactly the same?”

Another added: “Just realized I pronounce Demi Lovato and Demi Moore differently even though they have the same first name.”

Tonight’s win marked the 62-year-old’s first Golden Globe achievement

Demi Moore gave a moving speech after winning her first ever Golden Globe.

The actress has been in the film industry for over 40 years, and is best known for her films like G.I. Jane, Ghost, A Few Good Men, and Indecent Proposal.

This year’s Golden Globe nomination marked Moore‘s fourth, having previously been nominated for best actress in Ghost and If These Walls Could Talk, as well as If These Walls Could Talk being nominated for best miniseries.

But these nominations didn’t land Moore the Golden Globe win she’d hope for, and she had to wait almost 30 years for another chance at bagging the prestigious accolade.

The wait was worth it though, and this evening (January 5), Moore won best actress in a comedy or musical for The Substance.

Following her well-deserved win, the 62-year-old gave a moving speech.

“I really wasn’t expecting that,” Moore began.

“I’m just in shock right now. I’ve been doing this a long time, like, over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor. And I am just so humbled and so grateful.”

She continued: “30 years ago I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress, and at that time I made that mean that this is not something I was allowed to have. That I could do movies that were successful and made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged, and I bought in and I believed that.

“That corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete, maybe I had done what I was supposed to do.

“And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absently bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance. And the universe told me, you are not done.”

After listing several people in her thank yous, Moore went on to conclude: “I will just leave you with one thing that I think this movie is imparting. In those moments when we don’t think we are smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough, or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.

“So today I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness end of the love that is driving me, and the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong. Thank you so much.”

People took to Twitter to share their congratulations and happiness for Moore.

One said: “IM SO HAPPY FOR DEMI MOORE IM CRYING!!!!!!”

“After this speech… give Demi Moore all the awards,” echoed another.

Jenna Ortega praised for pronouncing Rihanna's name and 'correcting 95% of us'

Jenna Ortega praised for pronouncing Rihanna’s name and ‘correcting 95% of us’

Rihanna herself has confirmed Jenna is correct

There really isn’t much not to love about Jenna Ortega.

Smashing onto the scene with hit after hit like Wednesday, joining – and then leaving – the Scream franchise, and now fronting Beetlejuice 2, there’s a lot Jenna Ortega does right.

One of those things is the pronunciation of music icon Rihanna, whose name apparently everyone has been getting wrong – except Ortega that is.

At the 2023 Golden Globes, Ortega was presenting the award for Best Song in a Motion Picture.

Rihanna, who hasn’t realised new music in what feels like forever, was nominated for her song Lift Me Up, which featured in Marvel’s Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.

“I’m gonna get to original song in a minute, we got artists like Taylor Swift and Rihanna competing for that award,” she said.

“I know, I’m very excited.”

And as per usual, something most people wouldn’t notice was picked up on by eagled eyed TikToker @sugeneshin_, noticed that Ortega had pronounced Rihanna’s name differently to how they thought it was pronounced – and took to the video sharing platform to discuss.

"Miss Wednesday understood the assignment."

Not only did they admit they had been pronouncing RiRi’s name wrong the whole time, but it turns out they weren’t alone as people in the comments confessed to doing the same thing.

But how do we know Ortega isn’t the one pronouncing it wrong?

Well, we know Ortega’s pronunciation was on the money because Fenty Beauty, Rhianna’s make up brand, commented on the post saying: “Miss Wednesday understood the assignment.”

Plus, the queen herself also confirmed that the way Ortega said it is, in fact, the right way, telling Showbiz Tonight that ‘Ree-an-nah’ is right.

Others were shocked they had been saying it wrong the whole time, with one person commenting: “I’ve been pronouncing it wrong my whole life?!??”

While another said: “Dang…so I’ve been saying her name wrong my whole life?!! I feel embarrassed now. I had NO idea that was how you correctly pronounce her name!”

And a third added: “Now everyone is gonna pronounce the way she said rihannas name after seeing this video.”

Meanwhile a fourth commented: “Damn i always said ree-aw-nuh not ree-ah-nuh.”

Others were adamant they had been saying it correctly the whole time, while a few people pointed out that, depending on where you live in the world, it’s often pronounced differently.

Many Brits commented to say they already pronounced Rihanna’s name the correct way, with a fifth adding: “In the uk we pronounce it the same as Jenna.”

And a second added: “Pov everyone in britian [sic] already saying it right.”

For those who don’t know Rhianna’s first name is actually Robyn – so, do with that what you will.

Woman shows correct way to use a peeler and people say they've been doing it wrong this whole time

Woman shows correct way to use a peeler and people say they’ve been doing it wrong this whole time

A video shows why some vegetable peelers have a particular design feature which seemingly makes them much easier to use

Kit Roberts

If you’ve ever cooked anything more sophisticated than a ready meal, the chances are you’ve had to peel a vegetable at some point.

This means we obviously all know how to operate a vegetable peeler, right?

Of course you know how to use a vegetable peeler. (Capelle.r /Getty)

Of course you know how to use a vegetable peeler. (Capelle.r /Getty)

Wrong. At least, according to a video posted online which shows a hack on how to use the kitchen utensil more efficiently.

If you are someone who uses the variety of peeler where the blade is parallel to the handle then you may have noticed how the blades are often a little wobbly.

You could be forgiven for thinking that this was because the peelers are made cheaply, but it’s actually an intentional design feature.

In the video posted on TikTok – by user @foodbyjenn – the blade’s flexibility in the handle is actually an important part of it being able to work properly.

If you’ve ever handled a potato you may have noticed they tend to have a pretty irregular shape.

It’s not a smooth shape – they’re covered in lumps, bumps and dips.

People have been left shocked by the revelation. (Daniel de la Hoz / Getty)

The blade being able to rock back and forth in the handle actually helps it to keep the best angle to peel as you move it over the vegetable.

And, as the video shows, it also allows you to bring the peeler back again and get another strip of veg peel off with the backward stroke.

That means you can peel a vegetable twice as efficiently, assuming you can get the technique right.

Needless to say people had a lot of thoughts on the revelation, and took to social media to share them.

One wrote: “At this point, I’m not even sure I’m breathing right.”

Another commented: “Can’t tell you how many I’ve thrown away because I thought they were broken. Not just mine either, like every time I see one at people’s houses I just throw it away, because it’s broken. At least in my own mind it was broken. Maybe I’m the broken one.”

A third said: “I literally just thought mine was loose and I needed to get a new one.”

Of course, there are different types of peelers as well, and the method here would only work with the one shown in the video.

Some might argue, if they felt as though vegetable peelers were a point of controversy, that the ones where the blade is at 90 degrees to the handle are the superior variety of peeler.

This could be because not only is it much easier to get a purchase with these, but you also have more control on getting thinner peel so you can also use it on citrus fruit, for example.

Amber Heard has no new movies on the way after changing her name and moving to Spain

Amber Heard has no new movies on the way after changing her name and moving to Spain

Amber Heard has seemingly moved out of the public eye following her trial

Gerrard Kaonga

Those hoping to see Amber Heard back on the big screen following her very public court case with ex Johnny Depp will be out of luck.

Amber Heard has since relocated to Spain with her daughter and has shown no signs of returning to the US.

The actor has even gone as far to change her name and has avoided the spotlight since the trial.

When the trial was concluded Heard, who speaks fluent Spanish, moved to Madrid with her daughter, with reports claiming she was quitting Hollywood following the backlash from the trial.

Heard had previously been seen in a small village in Mallorca living under a pseudonym, before local news outlets revealed her identity.

Since then Heard has moved to Madrid, and seemingly has no plans to return to Los Angeles any time soon.

It seems that this plan is supported by the Aquaman star’s IMDB page, which lists no upcoming projects for her.

Heard made the move to Spain after losing a defamation case against Depp in the US.

The case arose after Heard published an op-ed in The Washington Post in 2018 in which she claimed that she had been the victim of domestic abuse.

Although she did not explicitly name Depp in the piece, the actor sued Heard for defamation.

Heard responded by counter-suing Depp for $100 million, with the case going on to be covered around the globe.

In the end, a jury found in favour of both Depp’s original suit and Heard’s counter-suit.

All outstanding settlements from the case were believed to have been settled by the end of 2022, and Heard made the decision to relocate to Spain.

Speaking in 2022, a source reportedly close to Heard told PEOPLE: “She is focused on raising her daughter. She spends every day with her girl.

“They stroll around, visit parks and enjoy family time. Amber is a great mom.”

And with no upcoming projects listed on IMDB it seems apparent that Heard has no plans to return to acting in the near future at least.

The actor is said to have used the name Martha Jane Cannary, the real name of old-West American sharpshooter Calamity Jane.

Commenting on the name, El Diario de Mallorca wrote: “The choice of this identity, which appears at the entrance of her new Mallorcan home, draws much attention.

“Especially as Johnny Depp always maintained that his family trace their roots to ancient Native American tribes and that his great-great-grandmother was Cherokee.”
